Fewer Maryland Students Receive School Breakfasts Post-COVIDSouthern Maryland Chronicle, July 2, 2024
According to Maryland Hunger Solutions’ latest Maryland School Breakfast Report, the ending of nationwide waivers allowing schools to serve meals to all students at no charge led to a decline in the number of school breakfasts and school lunches served across all income levels in Maryland during the 2022–2023 school year. “It’s challenging for a student at any age to sit in the classroom and focus on what the teacher is trying to share when they’re hungry,” according to Maryland Hunger Solutions Interim President LaMonika Jones.
