Food Truck Updates for Michigan New York and Los Angeles
The information below was provided by Chef Rain O’Donnell
In Michigan to operate a food truck you must have a stand alone building to return to every
24 hours.
New York State is similar – Mobile Food Service establishments are required to
utilize a permitted commissary kitchen for food storage and preparation. (RO)
Are there some counties in NY that are harder to obtain a permit from than others?
I’ve heard stories of Saratoga being particularly difficult for Food Truck operators, but this
is more-so because of the limitations as to where you can and cannot park (trucks
cannot park on any city property!) Otherwise, it can just be challenging to track down all
of the information from county to county. Some websites have all of the information and
applications you need clearly listed, while others have barely any information at all, let
alone info on food trucks.. so that can be a challenge. Sometimes you just have to pick
up the phone and call the old-fashioned way.
