Food Action Plan-Columbus, Ohio

A Call for Collaboration.

Chef Mikey LLC’s Food Action Plan seeks collaborators, any takers?

It has now been 255 days, or 8 months and 13 days since the White House Hunger, Nutrition and Health Conference on September 28, 2022.

The White House initiative’s goal is to reduce diet-related diseases by January 1, 2030.

That’s leaves us only 2,397 days left to accomplish this goal.

Let’s take a look at Columbus, Ohio.

A goal of their Food Action Plan is:

1-To enhance coordination and communication among existing food resources and agencies to create a greater impact through collaboration.

2-They want to improve access to and education about healthy food, affordable food and local food for everyone in our community.

3-The plan states they want to increase the role of food in economic development to strengthen small businesses and ensure the supply of healthy and locally produced food for our community.

This call is made by many Food Policy Councils and Action Plans.

Here is what we are doing at Chef Mikey, LLC –

1-We are working to enhancing communication among agencies to create a greater impact through collaboration by offering free listing for healthier choice foods, and those establishments that offer these foods, on www.chefbnb.org.

2-We will be conducting a Kahoot EDU after-school program beginning with the 2023-2024 school year. Our Kahoot EDU program is an educational tool that will be available to 2,000 players weekly. During our program students/players will learn about healthier choice foods, and companies that offer them. We plan to offer coupons to top players for these healthier choice foods.

3-Chef Mikey, LLC is a small business, acting as an aggregator between locally produced food suppliers. We are working with our small farms, with the goal of attaining funding from the Local Food Promotion Program in 2024.

June 5, 2023 Booker, Strickland, Adams, McGovern introduce bicameral legislation to ensure equitable access to USDA programs for Small Farms.

The office would directly serve small farms with grant and technical assistance and ensure that all USDA programs are designed to meet the needs of small farmers.

“Small acreage farms-those with fewer than 180 acres-make up 70 percent of all farms in the uS and are vital to rural economic growth, food security, and local food supply chains.”
